Running with a purpose...

I used to run for my health, to keep stress levels down (oh, we know we need it) and for "fun". Now, I'm running for a bigger purpose and that's giving strength to stand up and go...

I twisted my ankle this past Saturday when I was going in my 20 mile run... I did only 18...  I was going to give myself a "break" before the half marathon that I have on Sunday this weekend, but when I saw in the news that once again drugs cartels and violence are taking my beautiful poor country (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-18015298). I couldn't do anything else but go and run again...

I can't do much to help stop what is going on in Honduras. But, something that I can do, and I will do... I will run for "OYE" and help them keep youngsters in school, so that they don't get involved with this chain of violence that is now wrapped around my country. They too can "fly"... with just a little help.

This is a appeal for all of you who can to donate to do so (even a little amount will help "OYE").

What is OYE?

Some people have been asking me what cause I'm running for. Well, here's a video from the youth of OYE (Organization for Youth Empowerment) telling you what OYE is...in one word!

Be the movement...be the change

Hi everyone! My name is Adela Olivia Chavez, and I am taking part in Organization for Youth Empowerment's (OYE) RACE 4 OYE initiative. Originally I am from Tegucigalpa, and I've never gotten the chance to raise for a creative cause in Honduras before.

OYE is a small grassroots organization that promotes access to education for at-risk Honduran youth. OYE provides scholarships and capacity building programs to students who would not otherwise have the means to stay in school, as well as leadership opportunities in radio, magazine, art, and sports programs. Through OYE, these youth gain the tools they need to create the positive change they want in their country. To learn more, visit the OYE Social Media Project, which has a bunch of cool videos where you can actually meet the youth OYE works with.

You can help me reach my goal of raising $5,000 for OYE by donating through the Chipin widget on the sidebar - it's fast and totally secure. You will be redirected to OYE's PayPal page where you can make a secure credit card donation directly to OYE. Thank you!

Be the movement...be the change. RACE 4 OYE!
